The IMF and World Bank have contributed much towards Malawi's economic recovery. These financial institutes have supported the country's economic policies financially and morally and are hugely responsible for Malawi's current reputation as a model of economic growth in Africa and the third world at large.
In today's newspapers in Malawi, there are reports that President Bingu wa Mutharika has lashed out at IMF and World Bank saying they are responsible for the forex crisis that has hit the country hard lately.
The President blames the IMF and World Bank for pushing policies that have not benefited the country among them the liberalization of the economy that the President says has allowed foreigners to externalize foreign currency.
Is the President justified by saying this or he needs to start pushing bills in Parliament that will protect the fragile Malawi economy instead of accusing the IMF and World Bank?
Amalawi, what's your take on this?
